Imagine a scenario where an individual named Rohan decides to break into a house with the intention of kidnapping the homeowner's child, an act which is punishable with imprisonment for life. Rohan sneaks into the house by breaking a window while the family is asleep. However, he is caught by the homeowner before he can reach the child's room. In this situation, Rohan has committed house-trespass with the intent of committing a serious offence, kidnapping. According to Section 450 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, Rohan can be punished with imprisonment for up to ten years and may also be liable to pay a fine for his actions.
