Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where a treasurer of a local sports club, Mr. Sharma, is responsible for managing the funds collected from club members for the maintenance and development of the club facilities. Mr. Sharma is entrusted with this money and is expected to use it according to the club's financial policies and for the benefit of the club.

However, Mr. Sharma starts using the club's funds for his personal expenses, such as paying off his credit card bills and funding a vacation. Since he is using the money for purposes other than what was agreed upon and in a manner that is dishonest and against the interests of the club members, Mr. Sharma's actions would amount to "criminal breach of trust" under Section 405 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860.
