Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where John, in a fit of rage during an argument, pushes his pregnant neighbor Alice, who is in her third trimester. John knows that such a push could potentially harm Alice and her unborn child, but he acts impulsively without thinking of the consequences. Alice falls and is rushed to the hospital. While Alice survives the fall with minor injuries, the unborn child does not survive the trauma.

In this case, even though John did not intend to kill the unborn child, his actions were reckless and he knew they could cause serious harm. Under Section 316 of The Indian Penal Code, John's act led to the death of the quick unborn child, and thus he could be held liable for his actions and punished accordingly, facing imprisonment of up to ten years and a fine.
