Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where a shopkeeper, suspecting that one of his employees has stolen money from the cash register, decides to take matters into his own hands. He confines the employee in a room and physically assaults him to force a confession and retrieve the stolen money. The shopkeeper's actions are aimed at extorting a confession and recovering the stolen property.
In this situation, the shopkeeper's conduct would fall under the purview of Section 330 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The act of causing hurt to the employee to extract a confession or to recover the money constitutes an offence as described in the section. The shopkeeper could be liable for imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine.
