Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where a woman is walking down the street with her purse slung over her shoulder. A man approaches her and tries to snatch the purse. In the process, he grabs the woman's arm and twists it, attempting to wrestle the purse away from her. The woman resists and the man eventually runs off without the purse. Despite not completing the theft, the man's act of using force in an attempt to steal the purse is punishable under Section 356 of the Indian Penal Code. If caught, he could face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both, even though he did not succeed in stealing the purse.
