Imagine a shopkeeper who owns a grocery store and has a set of weights that he knows are inaccurate. He intentionally uses these false weights to measure out goods for customers, thereby giving them less than what they pay for. If caught, under Section 266 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, the shopkeeper could face imprisonment for up to one year, or a fine, or both, because he possessed and used the false weights with the intent to defraud his customers.
