Explanation using Example

Imagine a group of people have gathered to protest against a new law, but they start resorting to violence, damaging public property, and causing a disturbance to the peace. The police declare the assembly unlawful. Despite this, Raj, who is aware that the police have declared the assembly unlawful, decides to join the protest knowing the violent nature it has taken on. By doing so, Raj has intentionally become a member of an unlawful assembly as per Section 142 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860. If caught, he could be charged for being part of that unlawful assembly.
