Explanation using Example

Imagine a situation where an individual, named John, encourages his friend, Mike, to steal a wallet from a person named Bob. John provides Mike with a plan and the necessary tools for pickpocketing. However, while attempting to steal the wallet, Mike gets into a scuffle with Bob and, in the heat of the moment, Mike ends up causing serious harm to Bob.

In this scenario, according to Section 111 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, John would be held responsible for the harm caused to Bob, even though he only abetted the theft. This is because the harm was a probable consequence of the theft, and it occurred under the influence of John's instigation. Therefore, John's liability extends to the unintended act of harm, just as if he had directly abetted it.
