Explanation using Example
Imagine a local politician during an election campaign offers free meals and drinks to constituents at a community event with the expectation that they will vote for him in return. This act of providing food and drink as a form of gratification to influence the voters is considered "treating". According to Section 171E of The Indian Penal Code, this politician could be charged with bribery. However, as per the provision, this specific type of bribery (by treating) would be punishable with a fine only, rather than imprisonment or a combination of fine and imprisonment.
