Explanation using Example

Imagine a 10-year-old child, B, who has a severe infection in his arm. B's parents take him to the doctor, who advises that the arm must be amputated to save B's life. Although the operation could cause harm to B, and B is too young to give informed consent, B's parents agree to the surgery. The amputation is performed in good faith by the doctor for the benefit of B's health and life, and thus, according to Section 89 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, it is not an offence, even though it causes harm to B.
