Explanation using Example

Imagine you own a house (House A) that is located behind another property (House B), and the only access to the main road is via a driveway that passes through House B's property. You, as the owner of House A, have been granted the right to use this driveway to access your property. This right of way is an easement, where House A is the dominant heritage and you are the dominant owner, while House B is the servient heritage and its owner is the servient owner. This easement allows you the beneficial enjoyment of your property by ensuring access to the public road.
