Imagine Rita wants to sell her car but is too busy to meet with potential buyers. She asks her friend, Arjun, to act as her agent and handle the sale on her behalf. Arjun agrees to do this without any payment or benefit from Rita. According to Section 185 of The Indian Contract Act, 1872, Arjun's agreement to act as Rita's agent is valid even though he is not receiving any consideration for his services. This means Arjun can legally represent Rita in the sale of her car.
