Explanation using Example

Imagine Rita hires Raj to sell her artwork. Raj spends money on advertising and succeeds in selling the artwork. Rita, however, refuses to pay Raj his commission and reimbursement for the advertising costs. According to Section 221 of The Indian Contract Act, 1872, Raj is entitled to retain the artwork or any related papers until Rita pays him his due commission and reimburses the advertising expenses.
