Explanation using Example

Imagine you lend your friend, Rahul, a designer suit for a wedding, making it clear that you need it back for another event. Without your permission, Rahul mixes it up with his own suits and then sends them all for dry cleaning. Unfortunately, the suits get mixed up, and the dry cleaner is unable to identify your designer suit among Rahul’s. As a result, Rahul is unable to return your specific suit. Under Section 157 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, you would be entitled to compensation from Rahul for the loss of your designer suit.
