Explanation using Example
Imagine Rita agrees to buy a painting from John, believing it's an original piece by a famous artist. John believes the same, but neither party verifies this fact. After the sale, Rita discovers the painting is a replica. Under Section 22 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, Rita cannot void the contract just because both were mistaken about the painting's authenticity, as the mistake was about a matter of fact and not induced by the other party.
