Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where a healthcare worker is physically assaulted while trying to administer vaccines during an epidemic outbreak. Under Section 3E of The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, the assailant, if convicted, not only faces the prescribed punishment for the assault but is also required to compensate the healthcare worker for the injury caused. The court will determine the compensation amount.
For example, if a doctor suffers a broken arm due to the assault, the court may order the assailant to pay for the doctor's medical expenses, loss of income during recovery, and other related costs as compensation.
