Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where a certain region is facing an outbreak of a contagious disease. To control the spread, the government issues an order under the Epidemic Diseases Act, mandating the wearing of masks in public places and restricting gatherings of more than 50 people.

John, a resident of the area, decides to throw a birthday party with 100 guests, ignoring the government's order. The police learn about the event and upon investigation, find that John has indeed violated the regulations.

Under Section 3(1) of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, John's act of disobeying the government order makes him liable for punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, which may include a fine and/or imprisonment.
