The Easements (Extending Act 5 of 1882), 1891 is an extension of the 1882 Easements Act that lays down the laws for creating and using easements in India. The Act defines easements as a right enjoyed by a person to use another person's property in a particular manner, such as a right of way or a right to light. The Act sets out the conditions under which easements can be created and the rights and liabilities of the parties involved. It also provides for the extinguishment of easements and the compensation payable to the owner of the property over which the easement is exercised. The Act is applicable to the whole of India except for the territories which, immediately before the 1st November, 1956, were comprised in Part B States.
