Explanation using Example
Let's say the Indian Government commissions an artist in 2021 to create a unique sculpture for a public park. The sculpture is completed and unveiled to the public in 2022. According to Section 28 of The Copyright Act, 1957, the Indian Government, being the first owner of the copyright of this sculpture, would hold the copyright until 60 years from the beginning of the calendar year following the year of first publication. This means the copyright for the sculpture would remain with the Government until the end of 2082.
