Scenario: Ramesh receives a court summons to appear as a witness in a criminal case. However, he decides to ignore the summons and goes on a vacation to avoid attending the court.

Applicable Section: Section 172 - Absconding to avoid service of summons or other proceeding from a public servant.

Consequence: Ramesh could face simple imprisonment for 1 month, or a fine of 500 rupees, or both.

Example 2:

Scenario: Priya is served with a notice to appear in court to testify in a case. She deliberately tears down the notice from her door and throws it away to avoid attending the court.

Applicable Section: Section 173 - Preventing the service or the affixing of any summons of notice, or the removal of it when it has been affixed.

Consequence: Priya could face simple imprisonment for 1 month, or a fine of 500 rupees, or both.

Example 3:

Scenario: Raj is ordered by the court to produce certain documents related to a property dispute. He intentionally hides the documents and does not produce them in court.

Applicable Section: Section 175 - Intentionally omitting to produce a document to a public servant by a person legally bound to produce or deliver such document.

Consequence: Raj could face simple imprisonment for 1 month, or a fine of 500 rupees, or both.

Example 4:

Scenario: Sunita is aware of a theft that occurred in her neighborhood but intentionally omits to inform the police about it.

Applicable Section: Section 176 - Intentionally omitting to give notice or information to a public servant by a person legally bound to give such notice or information.
