Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Ravi wants to file a complaint against his neighbor for a minor assault that happened on January 1st. According to the law, he has 90 days to file this complaint. The 90th day falls on April 1st, which is a Sunday and the court is closed. According to Section 471 of The Code Of Criminal Procedure 1973, Ravi can file his complaint on April 2nd, the next working day when the court reopens.
Example 2:
Priya needs to file an appeal against a judgment in a civil case. The deadline for filing the appeal is December 25th. However, December 25th is a public holiday (Christmas) and the court is closed. As per Section 471 of The Code Of Criminal Procedure 1973, Priya can file her appeal on December 26th, the day the court reopens after the holiday.
