Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Ravi was convicted of murder, an offense for which the death penalty is one of the possible punishments under Indian law. The court, however, sentenced him to life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. According to Section 433A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Ravi cannot be released from prison until he has served at least 14 years of his life sentence, regardless of any other provisions that might allow for earlier release.
Example 2:
Sunita was initially sentenced to death for her involvement in a terrorist attack. Later, her death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment under Section 433 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. As per Section 433A, Sunita must serve a minimum of 14 years in prison before she can be considered for release, despite any other laws or provisions that might suggest otherwise.
