Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Ravi was serving a 10-year sentence for robbery. After serving 4 years, he managed to escape from prison. He was on the run for 2 years before being caught again. During his time on the run, he committed another crime and was sentenced to life imprisonment. According to Section 426(1) of The Code Of Criminal Procedure 1973, Ravi's life imprisonment sentence will take effect immediately upon his capture, regardless of the remaining 6 years of his original sentence.

Example 2:

Sita was serving a 5-year sentence for fraud. After serving 2 years, she escaped from prison. She was caught after 1 year and was sentenced to an additional 3 years of rigorous imprisonment for escaping. According to Section 426(2)(a),...
