Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Scenario: A man named Rajesh is accused of committing three different thefts in three different locations within the same city over a span of two months.
Application of Section 184: Rajesh can be charged and tried for all three thefts in a single trial. This is because, under Section 219 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a person can be tried for up to three offences of the same kind committed within a year. Therefore, the court in the city where any one of the thefts occurred can conduct the trial for all three thefts.
Example 2:
Scenario: A group of four friends, Amit, Sunil, Priya, and Neha, are accused of conspiring together to commit a bank robbery. Each of them played different roles in the crime, such as planning, executing, and aiding the robbery.
Application of Section 184: All four friends can be charged and tried together in a single trial. This is because, under Section 223 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, persons accused of the same offence committed in the course of the same transaction can be tried together. Therefore, any court competent to try the bank robbery can conduct the trial for all four accused individuals together.
