Example 1:
Scenario: A young man named Rajesh is found dead in his apartment in Mumbai. His neighbor, Suresh, discovers the body and immediately calls the local police station.
Application of Section 174:
- Receiving Information: The officer in charge of the police station receives the information about Rajesh's death.
- Informing the Magistrate: The officer immediately informs the nearest Executive Magistrate empowered to hold inquests.
- Proceeding to the Scene: The officer, along with two respectable inhabitants of the neighborhood, proceeds to Rajesh's apartment.
- Investigation and Report: The officer conducts an investigation, noting any wounds, fractures, bruises, or other marks of injury on Rajesh's body. The officer then draws up a report describing the apparent cause of death and the manner in which any injuries were inflicted.
- Forwarding the Report: The report is signed by the officer and the witnesses, and it is forwarded to the District Magistrate.
