Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Ravi, a resident of Mumbai, has been involved in several street fights and has a history of disturbing the peace in his neighborhood. The local police, concerned about his behavior, bring him before a magistrate. The magistrate orders Ravi to execute a bond under Section 120 of The Code Of Criminal Procedure 1973. This bond requires Ravi to keep the peace for a period of one year. If Ravi gets involved in any more fights or disturbances during this period, he will be considered to have breached the bond, and legal action can be taken against him, which may include imprisonment.
Example 2:
Sita, a known troublemaker in her community in Delhi, has been caught attempting to incite a riot. The police arrest her and present her before the magistrate. The magistrate, considering her past behavior, orders Sita to execute a bond to be of good behavior for the next two years. This bond specifically states that if Sita commits, attempts to commit, or abets any offense punishable with imprisonment, she will be in breach of the bond. Six months later, Sita is found trying to instigate another riot. Since this is a clear breach of the bond, she is arrested and faces legal consequences, including possible imprisonment.
