Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Scenario: A police officer has a warrant to arrest Rajesh, who is suspected of theft. The officer believes Rajesh is hiding in his friend's house.

Application of Section 47:

  1. The police officer arrives at the friend's house and informs the friend that he has a warrant to arrest Rajesh.
  2. The friend must allow the officer to enter the house and provide all reasonable facilities for the officer to search for Rajesh.
  3. If the friend refuses to let the officer in, the officer can break open the door or window to enter the house after notifying the friend of his authority and purpose.
  4. If the house has a room occupied by a woman who does not appear in public according to custom, the officer must give her notice and allow her to withdraw before entering the room.

Example 2:

Scenario: A police officer is chasing a suspect, Anil, who runs into a neighbor's house to hide.
