Explanation using Example
Imagine John receives a summons for a minor traffic violation, which includes a fine. John decides he wants to plead guilty and avoid going to court. He writes a letter to the Magistrate, admitting his guilt, and includes a check for the amount of the fine. According to Section 253(1) of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, John can do this by post.
The Magistrate, after receiving John's letter and the fine, can use the power granted by Section 253(2) to convict John in his absence based on the guilty plea and apply the fine John sent to the penalty. This saves time for both John and the court.
