Explanation using Example

Imagine a situation where an individual, John, is a manager at a company and has been siphoning company funds into his personal account over several months. In the process, he has falsified the company's financial statements to cover up the embezzlement. When the company conducts an audit, it discovers the discrepancies and reports them to the authorities.

Under Section 220 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, John can be charged with multiple offences arising from his actions. He can be charged with embezzlement, which is a form of criminal breach of trust, and with falsification of accounts, as both sets of offences are connected by the same series of acts – the act of stealing from the company and the subsequent act of covering it up.

Therefore, John could be tried in one trial for both the embezzlement and the falsification of accounts, as they form part of the same transaction under the provisions of this Section.
