Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where a burglary has occurred in a neighborhood. The police are investigating the crime and believe that John, who lives two blocks away from the crime scene, may have seen the burglar fleeing. Since John's residence is within the limits of the jurisdiction of the investigating officer, the officer issues a written order under Section 160 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, requiring John to attend the police station to provide a statement.
John is 30 years old, so the provision that exempts males under 15 and over 65 does not apply to him. He is also not mentally or physically disabled, nor is he a woman, so he is required to attend the police station as the order specifies. However, if John were either under 15, over 65, a woman, or had a disability, the police would have to interview him at his residence instead.
Additionally, if John had to travel to a place other than his residence to comply with the police officer's order, he might be entitled to receive payment for his reasonable expenses incurred due to attending, as per the rules established by the State Government under sub-section (2) of Section 160.
