Explanation using Example
Imagine that Mr. Sharma wants to sue his former business partner for breach of contract, seeking damages of Rs. 10,00,000. However, the local civil court in his area has a pecuniary jurisdiction up to Rs. 5,00,000 only. Section 6 of The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 implies that Mr. Sharma cannot file his suit in this local court because the amount he is claiming exceeds the court's financial limits for hearing cases. He must instead file his suit in a court that has the jurisdiction to hear cases involving sums of Rs. 10,00,000.
