Explanation using Example
Imagine a charitable trust in Delhi that is dedicated to providing education to underprivileged children. This trust is subject to the regulations and oversight prescribed by the Charitable and Religious Trusts Act, 1920. This Act is referred to in official documents simply as the Charitable and Religious Trusts Act, 1920, as per section 1(1) of the Act.
If the trust has branches across India, they would all fall under the ambit of this Act, as it is applicable throughout India, in accordance with section 1(2). However, if the trust were to expand into a new state, and that state government decides that the Act, or parts of it, should not apply within its jurisdiction, it could issue a notification to that effect. Until such a notification is issued, the trust's branches would continue to operate under the provisions of the Charitable and Religious Trusts Act, 1920.
