Ravi knows that Suresh was at work during the time of the alleged theft and that his report is entirely fabricated. The police investigate and find that Suresh has a solid alibi and that Ravi's report is false. Under Section 240 of The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Ravi can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both for giving false information about an offence.
