Example 1:

Scenario: Fraudulent Packaging

Ravi owns a small business selling organic spices. To increase his profits, he decides to package regular spices in containers labeled as "Premium Organic Spices." A customer, Sita, buys these spices believing they are organic. When she finds out they are not, she reports Ravi to the authorities.

Applicable Section: Section 350 (1) Offence: Fraudulently making a false mark upon any package or receptacle containing goods. Punishment: Imprisonment for 3 years, or fine, or both. Legal Classification: Non-cognizable, Bailable, Triable by any Magistrate.

Example 2:

Scenario: Criminal Intimidation

Applicable Section: Section 353 (2) Offence: False statement, rumour, etc., with intent to create enmity, hatred or ill-will between different classes. Punishment: Imprisonment for 3 years, or fine, or both. Legal Classification: Cognizable, Non-bailable, Triable by any Magistrate.

Example 4:

Scenario: Public Intoxication

Vikram gets heavily drunk and starts causing a scene in a public park, shouting and annoying other visitors. The police are called, and Vikram is taken into custody.

Applicable Section: Section 355 Offence: Appearing in a public place, etc., in a state of intoxication, and causing annoyance to any person. Punishment: Simple imprisonment for 24 hours, or fine of 1,000 rupees, or both or with community service. Legal Classification: Non-cognizable, Bailable, Triable by any Magistrate.

Example 5:

Scenario: Defamation of a Public Official

A local newspaper publishes a false story accusing the Governor of corruption. The Governor files a complaint through the Public Prosecutor.

Applicable Section: Section 356 (2) Offence: Defamation against the Governor of a State in respect of his conduct in the discharge of his public functions. Punishment: Simple imprisonment for 2 years, or fine, or both, or community service. Legal Classification: Non-cognizable, Bailable, Triable by Court of Session.

Example 6:

Scenario: Neglecting a Helpless Person

Sunita is responsible for taking care of her elderly, mentally ill uncle. However, she neglects him, leaving him without food or medical care. A neighbor reports this to the authorities.

Applicable Section: Section 357 Offence: Being bound to attend on or supply the wants of a person who is helpless from youth, unsoundness of mind or disease, and voluntarily omitting to do so.
