The All-India Services Act, 1951 was enacted to regulate the recruitment, conditions of service and other related matters of the All India Services officers. The act applies to three All India Services, namely the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFoS). The act establishes the Central Civil Services (Cadre) Rules, which govern the appointment and promotion of officers in these services. The act also lays down the procedure for disciplinary action and removal of officers from service. It also provides for the establishment of joint cadre authorities to manage the officers' appointments, promotions, and transfers across different states. The act empowers the central government to make rules to carry out the provisions of the act.
