Imagine a young woman named Priya who has recently completed her law degree from a recognized university in India. Priya is 22 years old and aspires to become a practicing advocate. To achieve this, she must be admitted to the State Bar Council.
Under Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961, Priya needs to meet the following conditions:
- She must be a citizen of India.
- She has surpassed the age requirement of twenty-one years.
- She holds a law degree from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India, which she obtained after a three-year course of study, meeting the criteria of clause (c)(iii).
- Priya must also pay the enrolment fees to the State Bar Council and to the Bar Council of India, as specified under clause (f).
Once Priya has fulfilled these conditions and submitted her application along with the required fees, she can be admitted as an advocate on the State roll, allowing her to practice law in India.
