Explanation using Example
Imagine a lawyer named Mr. Sharma who has been practicing law for over 20 years with a remarkable reputation in the legal community. His expertise lies in constitutional law, and he has argued numerous cases before the High Court, earning the respect of his peers and judges alike.
Recognizing his ability and experience, the High Court considers designating him as a senior advocate. Mr. Sharma agrees to this honor, and consequently, he is officially designated as a senior advocate in a formal ceremony. Following this designation, Mr. Sharma is now subject to certain restrictions on his practice, such as not being able to file a vakalatnama, in line with the rules prescribed by the Bar Council of India.
As a senior advocate, Mr. Sharma now focuses on providing legal opinions and arguing before the court, while junior advocates handle the litigation paperwork and client interaction.
