Explanation using Example

Imagine the scenario where the budget session of the Indian Parliament has concluded in March. The President of India, considering the onset of the monsoon and the need for subsequent legislative action, decides to summon the Monsoon Session to commence in the last week of July. This decision is in line with Article 85(1) of the Constitution, ensuring that there is not a gap of more than six months between the two sessions.

Additionally, in a separate scenario, if the current political climate requires it, the President may use the power under Article 85(2) to prorogue the Parliament after the conclusion of the budget session, thereby ending that session. The President may also, if the situation demands, such as a loss of majority by the ruling party, dissolve the Lok Sabha, prompting a general election.
