Explanation using Example
Imagine a situation where there is a significant increase in the population of a particular state in India, say State X, according to the latest census. As per Article 81 of the Constitution of India, the number of seats allotted to State X in the Lok Sabha must be revisited.
The Election Commission would review the number of Lok Sabha seats for State X to ensure that the ratio between the number of seats and the population of the state is consistent with other states. This might result in an increase in the number of Lok Sabha seats for State X to maintain equal representation based on population.
Additionally, State X would be divided into new territorial constituencies to ensure that each constituency has a roughly equal population, allowing for fair and equal representation in the Lok Sabha.
