Explanation using Example
Imagine there is an upcoming presidential election in India. The current president's term is about to end, and political parties are gearing up to elect a new president. According to Article 54 of the Indian Constitution, the election process will involve:
- Gathering the elected members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which are the two houses of the Indian Parliament.
- Assembling the elected members from the legislative assemblies of various Indian states, including those from the national capital territory of Delhi and the union territory of Pondicherry.
These members will form an electoral college which will vote to elect the next president of India.
