Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where an Indian scientist is awarded a prestigious international award for her contributions to physics. The award includes a medal and the title "Global Science Laureate." According to Article 18 of the Indian Constitution:
- The scientist can accept the medal as it is an academic distinction, which is allowed under clause 1.
- However, she cannot accept the title "Global Science Laureate" if it is considered a title conferred by a foreign state and not an academic distinction, as per clause 2.
- If she were a government employee, she would need the consent of the President before accepting any such award from a foreign state, as stated in clauses 3 and 4.
