Explanation using Example

Imagine a family living in Delhi before the partition of India in 1947. After the partition, the family decided to move to Lahore, which became a part of Pakistan. According to Article 7 of the Indian Constitution, the members of this family would not automatically retain their Indian citizenship due to their migration to Pakistan post March 1, 1947.

However, if a member of this family later decides to return to India and manages to secure a permit for resettlement or permanent return, that person would be eligible to regain Indian citizenship. For example, if the son of the family, after living in Pakistan for some years, chooses to come back to India in 1950 with the proper permit, he can reclaim his Indian citizenship under the provisions of Article 7.
