The Special Criminal Courts (Jurisdiction) Act, 1950 was enacted to establish special courts for the trial of certain offences and to provide for their jurisdiction and powers. The Act empowers the State Government to establish such special courts to try offences punishable with imprisonment for a term of five years or more and also provides for the procedure to be followed by such courts. The Act also lays down provisions for the appointment of judges and other court officials and the powers of these courts to award punishments.
