The Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950

The Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950 is an Act of the Indian Parliament which provides for the establishment of Road Transport Corporations in India. The Act empowers State Governments to set up road transport corporations that provide efficient, adequate, economical and properly coordinated transport services to the public. The Act provides for the appointment of a Managing Director and other officers and employees of the Corporation, the constitution of the Corporation, its powers and duties, and the borrowing powers of the Corporation. The Act also lays down provisions for the regulation of road transport services and for the control of fares and freights.
