The Naga Hills-Tuensang Area Act, 1957 was enacted to provide for the establishment of an autonomous State comprising the Naga Hills and Tuensang Area in the State of Assam. The Act established the State of Nagaland and also provides for its governance, administration, and regulation of various matters related to the autonomous State. The Act also deals with the creation of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the appointment of the Governor and other officials, the powers and functions of the Legislative Assembly, and the administration of justice in the State. The Act was amended several times to bring about administrative and constitutional changes in the State of Nagaland.
