The Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 replaces the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963 and provides for the regulation, operation, and planning of major ports in India. Under the act, major ports in India are to be governed by a Board of Port Authority which will be responsible for the administration, control, and management of the port. The act provides for the establishment of a Port Authority for each major port in India which will be responsible for planning, development, and management of the port. The act also provides for the constitution of an Adjudicatory Board to hear and dispose of disputes and complaints relating to services provided by the port. The Act also empowers the Port Authority to lease land for port-related activities, and to levy fees and charges for services provided by the port.
