The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA) is an Indian labour law and social welfare scheme enacted on August 25, 2005. The Act guarantees 100 days of wage employment to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The Act aims to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The Act also aims to create durable assets in rural areas to improve the overall quality of life of the people living in rural areas.
