Imagine that Rita was supposed to file an appeal against a court decision that affected her property rights. The last date to file the appeal was March 31, 2023. However, due to a serious illness, Rita was hospitalized from March 20, 2023, to April 10, 2023, and could not file the appeal on time. After recovering, Rita files the appeal on April 15, 2023, and requests the court to admit her appeal despite the lapse of the prescribed period. She presents her medical documents as evidence to show that she had a 'sufficient cause' for the delay, as per Section 5 of The Limitation Act, 1963. The court, upon verifying her reasons, may use the discretion provided by this law to accept her late appeal.
