The Inland Vessels Act, 2021

The Inland Vessels Act, 2021 was enacted to regulate the safety, security, and registration of inland vessels in India. The Act establishes a Central Inland Water Transport Authority to regulate and supervise the inland water transport system. It also lays down provisions for the registration and certification of inland vessels, as well as for the training and certification of their crew. The Act also deals with issues such as the prevention of pollution from inland vessels, the safety of navigation, and the liability of operators for accidents. It provides for the establishment of a National Waterway Tribunal to adjudicate disputes relating to inland water transport, and also includes provisions for the enforcement of the Act and penalties for contravention of its provisions.
