The Indian Treasure-trove Act, 1878

The Indian Treasure-trove Act, 1878 provides a framework for the regulation of hidden treasure-troves in India. According to the Act, any person who finds any treasure-trove, whether it is a coin, bullion, or other valuable article, must inform the Collector of the District or the Commissioner of Revenue within whose local jurisdiction the treasure-trove was found. The Act also lays down the procedure for determining the true owner of the treasure-trove and the division of the treasure-trove between the finder and the owner.
